Farnborough wins the lottery

Rushmoor closed and demolished Farnborough Leisure Centre at the very moment, post-Covid, that it was most needed. The Government has now decided to put £20 million towards replacing it.

Mark says:

"Against the wishes of many residents, we have had to watch whilst community amenities were levelled by a Conservative Council with no firm plans or the cash to rebuild them. Having been bailed out by the Government for nearly half the estimated £45 million cost, we wonder where the rest of the money is coming from, and when we will have a leisure centre again."

The Levelling Up fund was originally announced as helping "left behind" communities to catch-up. It appears to have been re-purposed as a way of enabling Conservative Councils to deliver on their unfulfilled promises in the run up to the General Election.
