Princes Mead Sold

Princesmead shopping centre has been sold to a developer with plans to build 350 homes. The press release said they have a long term plan to re-energise the retail market and provide homes. They say this plan will be in addition to the other civic centre plans already being brought forward by Rushmoor Council. Through delivery of affordable homes and the successful re-imagination of our high streets. The developers also say there plan to develop would be delivered before the first phase of the Civic quarter plans for the town.
Your Liberal Democrat team are dismayed by this latest plan which could devastate the heart of our shopping centre. Whilst we understand that the retail world is now very different to a few years ago this could mean our town centre will be a giant building site whilst all these various plans move forward. We are still after 22 years awaiting completion of the Kingsmead re-development plans. What will this mean for the heart of our town. What about the needs now of local people and businesses?
