Local Government proposal voted on at Extraordinary meeting

Liberal Democrats last night at an Extraordinary Full Council meeting voted to approve the proposal for a North Hants Authority to go to government. We have from the very start of this process criticised the governments decision to scrap Rushmoor council in favour of a new Hants authority. We have raised stong concerns that this process has been rushed and at a time of financial crisis in councils. A lot of queries still need to be answered but we believe that this is the least worst proposal to avoid the government imposing other options on us.
We have also called for parish councils to be brought in to ensure that local representation and services are protected before a new authority comes in. A second consultation will be going out to Rushmoor residents to seek views on parish councils.
