Views do not represent the majority in our borough.

Residents have been in touch with us many times genuinely concerned about the rise in protests, flags and markings on highways throughout our borough. They have raised concerns over the groups taking over our National Flag and say the views associated with these actions do not represent the majority in our borough.

People from all our communities tell us they are feeling intimidated, fearful and concerned with the misuse of our national flag by groups for their own political agenda. In the current climate many people are concerned about their own and other people’s safety both in our country and across Rushmoor. Your Liberal Democrat team have for many years been having conversations and working with our wonderful and diverse communities in Rushmoor.

Cllr Craig Card says “I have been working cross-party with fellow councillors to find ways to help Rushmoor have more cohesive communities. I have talked with representatives across our communities including those involved in protests. I believe that concerns about housing, jobs, health, and schools are the real concerns. People feel let down by successive governments and need someone to blame. As a country we have not really invested in housing, health and schools for over 20 years.  We all need to work together to resolve these issues.”

Cllr Leola Card says “As Liberal Democrats nationally and locally we reject all prejudice and discrimination based upon race, colour, religion, age, disability, gender or sexual orientation. We seek to work towards building a diverse and welcoming Rushmoor community.”

Cllr Thomas Mitchell said “Rushmoor has over the years welcomed our diverse communities. They have been very supportive and worked to integrate into our community, finding work and so contributing to our economy.”

Liberal Democrats do believe that we must control our borders and control migration both legal and illegal which has got out of control since leaving the European Union.

The small number of migrants awaiting decision in our borough have done nothing to warrant the intimidation that has been directed on them. It is up to the government to process claims and decide if they are eligible to remain or to be removed if not. The build up has happened because the previous government stopped processing asylum claims and left people in hotels at the cost of taxpayers.

Recently Liberal Democrat party leader Ed Davey said “If you are fed up with the two old parties letting you down. If you fear the rise of racism and extremism. If you believe in decency, tolerance and the rule of law. Join us. Because we believe in the British people. We love our country. And together, we can change it for good.”
