Town centre cost of living

Families and Businesses hit by financial crisis.

Liberal Democrats nationally have been asking for some months now for help with the energy and cost of living crisis. Lib Dem Campaigner Leola Card says " The government has let us down by failing to act quickly to support struggling families and businesses. Whilst recent announcements provide help for some many will not receive any support and continue to suffer into the winter and the governments actions this week delay help that is desperately needed." Over the summer Liberal Democrats have called for a cut to VAT and a freeze on energy bills into the autumn and winter. Oil and Gas companies continue to have record profits. The Lib Dem plan would ensure the cost of increased Energy Bill support would be paid for by a new windfall tax on energy company profits.

14% wage rise for Councillors

At the full council meeting on 23rd June 2022 Rushmoor Conservative Councillors voted for a 14% a basic wage rise from £5,425 to £6,200. The vote was 21 in favour and 10 against. The Conservative leader and some senior Councillors spent the evening telling councillors that the independent report recommended the increase so it should be accepted because it was independent and councillors are not paid as much as other councillor's in other authorities. 21 councillors get a further Special Responsibility Allowances totalling £105,650 Several Conservatives made comparisons with Guildford, Southampton and Hampshire to show the difference between how much those Councillors are paid compared to Rushmoor Councillors which are not comparable with Rushmoor.
